Disposal of Photovoltaic Modules
Photovoltaic modules (PV modules) are classified as B2C WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). When collecting PV modules, a distinction is made between:
Typical household quantities (usually fewer than 20 modules)
Waste from commercial use (large quantities)
Typical household quantities (< 20 modules)
Individuals can dispose of small quantities of PV modules (fewer than 20 units) free of charge at their local recycling center. These recycling centers regularly accept the modules, and PV CYCLE ensures reliable pickup and proper recycling.
Commercial quantities (20+ modules)
For larger quantities, such as those generated by commercial installations or solar farms, we offer customized disposal solutions. Depending on the agreement, the costs are borne either by the generator or the waste owner.
PV CYCLE Collection System
PV CYCLE operates an efficient, nationwide collection system for end-of-life modules in Germany:
Private collection points
More than 60 private collection points, including EPCs (engineering, procurement, and construction companies), installers, and waste management companies, accept smaller quantities of up to 50 modules.
- Collection is handled by PV CYCLE (paid B2B service)
- PV CYCLE members may also voluntarily take back their own products at no cost
Pick up in person
PV CYCLE organizes the collection and proper disposal of used modules, inverters, storage systems, and other waste electrical equipment (not in Category B) nationwide.
- Collection on behalf of the manufacturers/distributors
- Pickup on behalf of the last owner responsible for disposal
- Service support for waste management companies during collection
Disposal of electronic waste
In addition to PV modules, PV CYCLE also offers expert disposal solutions for other components such as inverters, storage systems, and other end-of-life electrical equipment. In this way, we ensure a comprehensive circular economy in the photovoltaic industry
